Masonry makeover!

The Sydney suburb of Rosebery undergoes a makeover with the colossal Overland Gardens development, but manages to keep its identity thanks to the use of bricks - still the preferred material to combine tradition and innovation.

A million bricks

Designed by BVN Architects, Jolyn Place is encased in 1,000,000 handmade sand stock bricks used in a custom blend. The building encloses 266 apartments and 71 serviced apartments. The refined, brick-clad structure is part of the planned community called Overland Gardens.
The inspiration behind the final design for Jolyn Place is Dongdaemun Design Plaza: a cultural complex in Seoul, South Korea, designed by the late Zaha Hadid.

S.Anselmo Smoked bricks make up the wonderfully simple palette that shapes the building’s façade. State-of-the-art brick fabrication and laying techniques allowed the installation of these full bricks on such a high-rise structure.

The original look of the area with its brick buildings has not been forgotten thanks to S.Anselmo dashing bricks. The stylistic choice comprises a combination of bricks from our Smoked line in mid-grey, light grey and black tones.

#According to the architects

In the words of BVN architects, “The face brick creates a consistency to the building, giving it a distinct identity within the developing streetscape – now and into the future. The brick details provide diversity, visual interest, shadow and light,”.

“The brickwork is reminiscent of the simple, robust buildings that used to inhabit the area and can still be seen in some parts of inner Sydney. Much beloved as loft conversions, these buildings are in high demand as living spaces.

Sam Kandil, head of project marketing at Toplace, which is building the complex, says buyers are attracted to Jolyn Place because of its high quality and proximity to the services offered by Green Square, which features a new train station, town centre, library, new schools and a soon-to-be-completed aquatic centre.

“Rosebery and the surrounding Green Square district is one of the city’s fastest growing and developing districts,” he says. “With numerous new large-scale residential projects showcasing innovative, ground-breaking design, it’s becoming one of Sydney’s architecture quarters.”

In Jolyn Place one can find one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments, designed on open plan layouts that connect indoor and outdoor living, with functional modern kitchens and ample storage space. Nothing is left to chance thanks to premium finishes all over. All residents have access to the exclusive landscaped rooftop garden.
“Rosebery is a connected community with easy access to the best of Sydney,” says David Tedesco from Toplace “Centrally located between inner-city creative hubs and just four kilometres to the CBD, Jolyn Place offers residents suburban quirks without feeling far from the action.”
